Digital Sampler - July 6-9 (a 4-day taste of animation, Scratch, and digital storytelling)
Animation - July 19-23
Scratch - July 26-30
Digital Storytelling - August 2-6
Scratch & Keyboarding - August 23-27 (morning and/or afternoon)

A typical day!
The typical morning program consists of a group building activity and discussion of the work we are about to do, a "Smart Moves" exercise to get our mind and bodies focused for learning, a series of mini lessons on a technique or new concept on topic, studio time to try what we learned, eat the lunch you brought from home or purchase a lunch at one of the places in town and get some physical or mental activity. We have chess and checkers.

The afternoon begins with a group activity and "Smart Moves" exercise followed by substantial "studio time" for project work. Small group, whole group, and individualized mini tutorials and on-demand instruction are provided during this time. The studio time is designed to challenge one's thinking and skills. The day ends with a reflection period.

The half day camps will be similarly structured with alternating mini lessons and studio time for each topic.

The week will end with a showcase for families and friends. The students have worked hard in their learning adventures all week and need time to celebrate together.

Students will have the opportunity to return to Serious Fun Community Learning Center during open studio times in the fall to complete any unfinished work. Students will be given a copy of their work at the end of the week. With permission, some work may be posted on our website to be shared with our visitors.

Digital Sampler
July 6-9

In this 4-day session campers will get a taste of the fundamentals of animation, Scratch programming, and digital storytelling.

What a great week we had togther! The kids really took off on some complex programming...

Animation

July 19-23
In this session we will learn the fundamentals of animation and create simple animations as digital flip books. It is a good idea to write or bring an original story or poem to animate so your time with us is productive.

It was a pleasure to be with such a talented group of kids this past week. What fun!

Scratch

July 26-30
In this session we will learn Scratch which is a free program from MIT (see http://scratch.mit.edu/) based on the Logo programming language. Scratch makes it easy to create interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art by snapping together blocks of code. If you like, (and you get permission), share your creations on the web.

Digital Storytelling: (make movies from still images and voice)
Please email before registering to be sure there are still spaces in the camp(s) of your choice. Be sure to let us know if you will need to use one of our laptops or if you can bring your own.

August 2-6
Digital Storytelling is a relatively new and rapidly expanding art form recognized for its ability to connect us to one another by encouraging the sharing of personal stories of meaning. Participants will l
earn to use 21st century tools—a digital camera, a computer, and a scanner—to bring their stories to life. Explore visual storytelling using photographs, still images, text slides, and graphics. Experiment with music, voiceover narration, and other audio elements to tell stories in a new and exciting way. The only course requirement is curiosity
Bring your own digital camera, if you have one!

Scratch makes it easy to create interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art by snapping together blocks of code. If you like, (and you get permission), share your creations on the web. We will alternate a keyboarding lesson and practice with our Scratch programming. Our Keyboarding is based on an alphabet poem written by Diana Hanbury King. We will work with an alphabet poem, software, and interactive online games to create a solid framework of keyboarding skills. Develop good, safe technique before you develop any hunt and peck habits. Come and try this!
