Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an approach to health education developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. Research over the past 30 years has consistently demonstrated that MBSR, in the format of an 8-week health education course, can help reduce a wide range of stress-related symptoms, including those of chronic illness, pain, and anxiety. It is a self-care accompaniment to other therapies.

Devote some time in the new year to exploring the ways and means to build stress resilience and bring greater ease and wellbeing into your life. Inner resources of mind, breath and body - resources you already have - are at your disposal and waiting to be tapped. For more information, read Full Catastrophe Living or Coming to Our Senses by Jon Kabat-Zinn, or visit the website of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at UMass Worcester.

About the autumn 2009 stress reduction course at Serious Fun, participants said:

“Thank you for a wonderful experience... ….the 8 weeks and a day…I learned some important tools for living, for thriving.”

“A most relaxing and inviting introduction to meditation for someone new to this as I was. There were thoughtful weekly readings and a nice variation of silence and discussion; each session flowed smoothly. The gentle structure is just what I need and I am planning to take more sessions."
