Instructor: Jacqueline Gens
8 Week Program - $125
6:00-8:00 PM
8 Wednesdays: TBA
Adults
Minimum of 4 students needed to run this class
Participants will be introduced to a variety of poetic forms and works that exemplify a contemplative view. We will read and examine works from Asian traditions, indigenous peoples, and Western contemporary poets. During each workshop, we will engage in simple writing exercises to “loosen” the mind from fixed mind to arrive at fresh perceptions as a basis for creative work. The workshop is open to both beginners and advanced poets. The instructor will provide a source book/anthology drawing on thirty years experience as well as share her archive of recordings of teachings by master poets such as Allen Ginsberg and Anne Waldman on the topic. While a contemplative discipline or some form of body/mind training like meditation, yoga or martial arts is useful, it is not a requirement for the workshop. The final workshop will culminate in a reading.
Class size: minimum 4 and maximum 12
